About Us
The Rescue Squad was formed in the late 1970s and was charted by the Tennessee Secretary of State on May 8, 1978. Since 1978, the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. has been the agency to delivering rescue services to all of Cannon County. Every day the Rescue Squad works hand-in-hand with all emergency services in Cannon County to help to protect lives and rescue accident victims. Almost every volunteer responder with the Rescue Squad is a responder with one of the local volunteer fire departments. This close working relationship between departments has allowed for a coordinated response across all of Cannon County. The Rescue Squad is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives. Through community support The Rescue Squad was able to purchase its first world famous Jaws-of-Life in 1979. Along with the Rescue Squad, The Fire Departments play a key role in successful missions every day in Cannon County. The Rescue Squad started with little more than a vision to provide rescue services to the citizens of Cannon County. According to charter members, the very first rescue vehicle was an old worn-out station wagon. Later, the Squad acquitted a pick-up truck with a utility bed attached and converted it to a rescue response vehicle. Now, the Rescue Squad has 2 extrication trucks, a mobile command trailer, 2 support vehicles, a Polaris Ranger, and various rescue tools. Michael Underhill, the Chief Executive Office of the Rescue Squad said, "We have worked hard to improve the Squad in recent years. We have made it better for the benefit of Cannon County". The Rescue Squad is funded primarily through fundraising and donations. The Squad would like to thank everyone that supports the organization every year. We would like to thank our volunteer rescue responders for giving their time to provide these vital services to our communities. Equipment is what the Rescue Squad has; our responders are what make our Squad a great organization.
